March 11, 2009
Dear Coalition Friends,
Just a reminder that tonight and Saturday the National Park Service will present the latest concept for its National Mall Plan at the Old Post Office at 12th and Pennsylvania Avenue:
Wednesday, March 11th at the Old Post Office, Room M07, 5-7 p.m.
Saturday, March 14th at the Old Post Office, Room M07, 12-2 p.m.
The format will be an Open House with a Powerpoint presentation focusing on portions of its "Preliminary Preferred Alternative" for the Mall--improvements to walkways, food service, redesign of specific areas (e.g., Union Square, the plaza and Reflecting Pool at the foot of Capitol Hill, and the Sylvan Theater on the Washington Monument grounds).
Questions will be taken. Comments, however, are to be submitted online, at the Park Service's Mall Plan website and will be accepted until April 20th.
To learn more about the Plan, read Newsletter 4 "A Preliminary Preferred Alternative."
These presentations are intended by the Park Service to give the public another opportunity to participate before the Draft National Mall Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) are published this summer.
Additionally, on March 17th, 20th, and 30th, from 1 to 4 p.m., the National Park Service will re-start the National Historic Preservation Act "Section 106" public meetings to discuss preservation issues. All meetings will be held at the NPS National Capital Region (NCR) Offce in training room B. The regional office is located at 1100 Ohio Drive SW in East Potomac Park, south of the Jefferson Memorial and I-395. Parking is available.
