January 26, 2009 - Second Edition
Dear Coalition Friends:
We are re-circulating this email from the National Parks Conservation Association:
February 20, 2009 is an important date for our National Parks. It provides the opportunity for all of us who love America's national parks to provide guidance on the future of the National Park System as it nears its second century in 2016.
The National Parks Second Century Commission, an independent commission convened last year by NPCA, plans to host a public input forum:
Friday, February 20, 2009
9:00 a.m. -- noon
National Geographic Society headquarters
1145 17th Street N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20036-4688
The Commission is charged with compiling a report, which includes public testimony, that examines the role of the national parks today and articulates a bold vision for the future. The Commission will recommend how our National Parks can adapt to serve future visitors, better protect resources, and be more active "classrooms" for all ages.
Comments from the public at the D.C. meeting, from subsequent meetings in Chicago and San Francisco, and from the website will be compiled and presented to a meeting of the Second Century Commission in Gettysburg, PA, in late March.
Details will follow on how you and your members, friends, and staff can give your input in person, by proxy, or electronically.
I hope to see you in D.C. on February 20!
Joy
