Framing a Capital City Symposium
April 11
9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
The National Building Museum
Washington, DC's L'Enfant and McMillan Plans have withstood the test of time during the city's 200-year history, balancing the permanence of monuments and memorials with the dynamic changes of a living city. But what does the future hold for commemoration, use of public space, and a city with national and local responsibilities?
Scholars, designers, policy makers, and citizens will participate in Framing a Capital City to consider how the nation's capital will evolve in its role as a showcase for the nation and a livable city. Experts and authors including Lawrence Vale, Lucy Barber, Alex Krieger, Dan Tangherlini, Judy Scott Feldman, and Timothy Beatley will discuss these important issues. Framing a Capital City will also guide the National Capital Framework Plan, a joint NCPC-CFA initiative to plan for the city in the 21st century.
