Dear Coalition Friends:
-- Our press conference calling for a stop to the entire Washington Monument security project -- including the 30" barrier walls planned for the open grass around the Monument -- received coverage on local NewsChannel 8 and Channel 7 and on WMAL radio. Thanks to all of you who attended, and to Arnold & Porter for providing the impressive venue.

-- In addition, we've been happily overwhelmed with emails following the Park Service's decision halt to the Washington Monument visitor center and tunnel project. Instead of answering each one, we hope that you will please accept this hearty thanks from the Coalition board and from me.
The Coalition has sent thank you letters to these champions of the Mall and of responsible government, and their staff. We provide fax numbers for those of you who would like to do the same:
-- Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND), Ranking member of the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, for protecting the Washington Monument by denying funding for the proposed visitor center and tunnel (Appropriations Subcomm. FAX: 202-228-2345; Sen. Dorgan's office FAX: 202-224-2551)
-- Senator Craig Thomas (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Energy Committee's Subcommittee on National Parks, for amending the Commemorative Works Act (in Title 2 of HR 1442) to include a moratorium on any future memorials or visitor centers on the Mall's cross-axis (called the "Reserve"). The moratorium was a policy of the National Capital Planning Commission. That policy now has the force of law. (Senate Subcomm. FAX: 202-228-0539; Sen. Thomas' office FAX: 202-224-1724)
We've also sent thanks to Congressional staff in the Senate and House Appropriations Committees and the Senate Energy Committee (Subcommittee on National Parks, Historic Preservation, and Recreation) who have done exemplary work in keeping senate and house members informed about Mall issues.
Thanks again to all of you who have helped our efforts to Save the Mall.
Judy Scott Feldman
Chairman
