Oct 20: New memorials for Mall?

Congress declared the Mall "completed" in 2003 but that has not stopped proposals for new memorials and museums.  Nor has it stopped Congress from making exceptions to the moratorium it imposed 5 years ago. On October 20, 2008, National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission will review three proposals. Click here to read the Agenda.

1. an extension of the authority of the MLK Jr. Foundation to build a memorial on the Tidal Basin, near the FDR Memorial on the Mall
2. legislation authorizing a new memorial to be located near the Korean War Veterans Memorial, on the Mall, to honor those who have served in Korea since 1953
3. legislation authorizing a new memorial to World War I
