Coalition celebrates 10 years of service and advocacy
The National Coalition to Save Our Mall is celebrating our 10th anniversary this year. We are funded solely by tax-deductible contributions from private citizens such as you from across the country. We hope we can continue to depend on your financial support.
Even the smallest of donations is helpful and appreciated. You can donate via our website by clicking here or by mail to:

The Coalition is an independent nonprofit, 501(c)(3), group of concerned citizens — historians, architects, residents of DC and all parts of the country, recreation buffs, educators, preservationists, and First Amendment champions – working to inject the voice of the public into the day-to-day decisions and long-range planning for the National Mall.
Our activities are a blend of SERVICE and ADVOCACY. As a public service, we have published a free, pocket-size Mall map and historical guide, THE NATIONAL MALL: STAGE FOR OUR DEMOCRACY, which has been distributed to over 180,000 people at Washington area airports and in Congressional offices. If you haven’t seen it, take a quick look at our new YouTube video – and send this link to your family and friends -- at

DC residents can pick up this map at the Greater U Street Neighborhood Visitor's Center, at Ben’s Next Door, adjacent to Ben’s Chili Bowl, 1211 U Street NW (U Street Metro), and at the US Department of Agriculture building Visitor Center on the Mall at 14th Street.
We produced a self-guided Mall tour entitled AMERICA’S STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM that uses the monuments to tell the story of the America’s founding ideals through history. This guide was first distributed at Obama’s inauguration. It can be downloaded from our website, scroll down the right-hand column to “FREEDOM.”
In addition, Coalition chair Judy Feldman has presented her educational Mall history and current issues slide show to over one hundred schools, Elderhostel, Rotary, and community groups around the Washington area.
The Coalition continues to ADVOCATE in support of Mall expansion and a comprehensive, long-range visionary plan for the Mall – a “3rd Century Mall” – to meet the needs for future generations on this ever-evolving, unique American symbolic public space. We are asking Congress or the President to form an independent commission of big thinkers and creative designers who can rise above the narrow, jurisdiction-based planning now being done, to create the 3rd Century Mall vision.
Our all-volunteer board and members donate hundreds of hours of professional time. We testify at Mall planning and review meetings, research Mall topics to keep the public informed, brief Congress and the media on Mall matters, and constantly update our website to include critical historical resources and contemporary Mall documents. We reach out to the public with our regular, timely email UPDATES to keep people informed and tell them how they can participate in making Mall a more welcoming place and worthy symbol of American democracy.
This fall the Coalition Board is in the process of charting our course for the next ten years, and beyond, of representing the American people in Mall matters. We welcome your financial support as well as your ideas as we build on our past and look to the future.
We hope you’ll support our ongoing efforts, and publication of our guides and maps, with your tax-deductible donation. With more funding, we could do even more.
