March 2010: Nonprofits comment on Park Service "National Mall Plan"
Read here letters from local and national nonprofits commenting on the National Park Service's "National Mall Plan." The Park Service began its planning process in fall 2006 and in February 2009 made public its "Preliminary Preferred Alternative."
These groups have been participating in the National Historic Preservation Act public consultation process for this plan. Read two earlier joint letters (May 2008 and December 2008) raising concerns about inadequacies in the planning process and the need for a multi-jurisdictional, visionary plan for the entire Mall, not just portions under NPS jurisdiction, and Park Service replies dismissing those concerns.
