Contact the Media

You may be wondering why your local media would care about this issue. But like nearly all of the news that originates in Washington, the controversy about the destruction of the National Mall is potentially of interest to every American. It's by no means a local Washington story. The Mall and other national treasures belong to everyone, not just to a few Washington insiders.

The simplest thing you can do is to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. It's easier than you might think. Again, our fact sheet will help you get started and we've included a sample letter that you can use as a jumping-off point.

Remember to address the interests of WWII veterans who live in your area. Most veterans have no idea of the true nature of the monument that is supposed to commemorate their service to our nation. Veteran and Korean War veterans also have a stake in the issue, as does everyone who has ever visited Washington as a tourist or to take part in a demonstration on the Mall.
